Dr Brian Moran is a lecturer in Medical Science at Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Galway city. In 2010, Brian graduated with an honour’s degree in Medical Science from ATU Galway city majoring in Medical Microbiology and Clinical Chemistry. Subsequently he undertook an MSc and PhD in Biomedical Science at Ulster University (UU) Coleraine. His PhD focused on developing novel therapies for type 2 diabetes mellitus which resulted in 10 peer reviewed publications. Following completion of his PhD, he returned to the clinical laboratory where he worked as a Medical Scientist and Clinical Biochemist throughout a number of Irish hospitals including Beaumont Hospital and Mater Misericordiae University Hospital.
He is actively involved in MSc/PhD research supervision within ATU and has significant expertise in cell culture, assay development and verification/validation in the clinical and research setting. His research interests include identification of novel biomarkers in disease and development of receptor-based therapies in diabetes and cancer. He currently collaborates with Ulster University, University of Galway, RCSI, Sligo University Hospital and St Vincent’s University Hospital. Recently he was awarded the President’s Award for Research Excellence and Impact in the Early Career Researcher category.
