Enterprise Ireland

Enterprise Ireland

Enterprise Ireland is the government organisation responsible for the development and growth of Irish enterprises in world markets. Enterprise Ireland provides supports for both companies and researchers in Higher Education Institutes to develop new technologies and processes that will lead to job creation and increased exports. Through a range of funding mechanisms Enterprise Ireland can provide advice and expertise, which can help a company undertake R&D and increase the level of innovation activities within a company.

Innovation Partnership Programme

European Union Regional Development Fund

The Innovation Partnership Programme can help you to take your business to the next level. The funding allows a company to access the latest skills and expertise from research institutes throughout Ireland. The Innovation Partnership Programme can provide up to 80% of the cost of research work to develop new and improved products, processes or services, or generate new knowledge and know-how.

Innovation Voucher

The Innovation Voucher initiative was developed to build links between Ireland’s public knowledge providers (i.e. higher education institutes, public research bodies) and small businesses. The Innovation Vouchers initiative is open to all small and medium-sized limited companies registered in Ireland. Applications are not restricted to clients of Enterprise Ireland. Innovation Vouchers worth €5,000 are available to assist a company or companies to explore a business opportunity or problem with a registered knowledge provider.

EU Programme for Research and Innovation

Horizon 2020

Horizon 2020 is the EU Research and Innovation programme with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020). The current main Horizon 2020 work programme is comprised of 18 thematic sections. Each thematic section is self-contained, and describes the overall objectives, the respective calls for proposals, and the topics within each call. Topics relevant to the MET gateway include:

  • Health, demographic change and wellbeing (Societal Challenge 1) (https://ec.europa.eu/programmes/horizon2020/node/1602)
  • Innovation in SME’s (https://ec.europa.eu/programmes/horizon2020/node/1437)

National Institutes of Health

National Institutes of Health

The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the nation’s medical research agency — making important discoveries that improve health and save lives. NIH improves health by promoting treatment and prevention, contributes to society by driving economic growth and productivity, and expands the biomedical knowledge base by funding cutting-edge research and cultivating the biomedical workforce of today and tomorrow. The NIH has a number of funding mechanisms that currently support exploratory development research activities between GMIT and Georgia Tech.

Irish Research Council

Irish Research Council

Established in mid-2012, the Irish Research Council funds excellent research within, and between, all disciplines, and in doing so to enhance Ireland’s international reputation as a centre for research and learning. One of the mechanism currently used to fund a number of industry research programmes in the Met Gateway is the Irish Research Council’s Employment Based Postgraduate Programme (EBP). This is a unique mechanism for partnering with companies to create jobs, research and innovation opportunities for early career Irish researchers.
