Design Engineering & Verification
The primary aim of this technology is to provide a number of technologies to entrepreneurs, SME’s and established companies where they can get support and expertise to design, create and manufacture their own ideas or prototypes. A recent example of this technology solution to industry was the design optimisation and prototyping for Adventure Sports Ltd, where unique expertise was provided by GMIT to provide a pre-manufacturing prototype resulting in the company entering a number of European and American markets within 4 months of completion of the project.
The institute houses a suite of equipment (CNC machines, 2 state-of-the-art rapid prototyping machines, materials testing equipment, SEM and a mechanical and welding facility) and relevant software packages which are currently available to industry. Simply, this technology offering is based on the skills and experience of a cohort of design and quality engineers, who have leading edge design software, prototyping and test equipment that can assist companies through the iterative process of early stage product design up to design freeze. This technology offering includes independent critique, Design of Experiments (DoE) iterative studies and access to infrastructure that may not be available internally.
