Dr. Karen Finn is a lecturer and Principal Investigator at Atlantic Technological University Galway City. She graduated with a first-class honours degree in Biomedical Science from the University of Galway (UoG), majoring in Pharmacology. She conducted her doctoral studies in the Genome Stability Laboratory (UoG) investigating the cellular responses to DNA damage and how defects in these signalling networks can lead to cancer development. Following this, she was awarded a Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship to study the pathophysiology of rare diseases associated with impaired lipid metabolism in the School of Biosciences, Cardiff University, UK.
Karen has over 15 years research experience in the areas of molecular biology and biomedical science. She currently supervises several postgraduate students and has active collaborations with both academic and clinical research partners. Her main research interests are cancer biology, metabolic diseases, biomarker identification (diagnostic and prognostic markers), and molecular microbiology. She has significant expertise in microbial and mammalian cell culture, cell-based functional assays, genetic engineering, and molecular- and immuno-based assays.
