The MET Technology Gateway is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the ERDF Northern and Western Regional Programme 2021-27

Tissue Engineering & Biofabrication

Through this technology theme, MET will provide expertise in tissue engineering and biofabrication. This technology will support companies in the testing and characterisation of biomaterials and in the development of combination technologies and their related manufacturing process. This offering will allow industry partners to conduct more effective design verification testing and gain a far greater insight to the challenges faced in treating the target disease. From industry perspective, the added value is through the availability of a state-of-the-art medical imaging suite and the range of clinically relevant bio-simulation systems which can be used in conjunction with the proposed technology to fully evaluate next generation devices prior to their use in pre-clinical or first in man trials.

Offerings include:

Concept / Prototype Development

  • Test/Assess biomaterials and their application in new innovative technologies.
  • Support design/development processes for new combination technologies or repurposing of existing technology to create new combination products.

Validation & Testing Capabilities

  • Allow companies to develop customized tests for combination technologies.
  • Enhance the bench-top testing capabilities to evaluate device performance.
  • Improve clinical relevance of anatomical models over animal models as specific human abnormalities can be tested.
  • Enhanced human factor studies.

Training & Manufacture Process Development

  • Tissue engineering/bio fabrication training programmes.
  • Generate knowledge around combination technologies and the ability to develop processes for their manufacture.
